Planning For Independence
At Aquinas, the Planning for Independence Program (PIP) endeavors to assist students with Developmental Disabilities and/or those with significant Autistic challenges with acquiring the skills necessary to live a rewarding and full life experience, as independently as possible.
We believe that every PIP student should have a comparable high school experience to that of any regular program student. To this end, our PIP students experience a timetable rotation, and are on a semestered system.
Our students experience a complement of Academic Courses, married with Life Skills programming. They will participate, with regular program students, in school wide activities and retreats. In their senior years, our PIP students are also encouraged to participate in Co-op type work placements.
Learners registered in the PIP program graduate with a Certificate of Accomplishment (COA).
Our students benefit from PIP placement for seven years, or until the student turns 21 years of age.
Students are instructed by qualified Special Education Resource Teachers (S.E.R.T.'s) and a complement of Educational Resource Workers (E.R.W.'s), who are teacher assistants.
